Walailak University School of Education Organizes HighScope Workshop to Strengthen School-Based Learning for Early Childhood Education Students

From September 4–5, 2026, the School of Education, Walailak University, organized a hands-on workshop entitled “School-Based Learning through the HighScope Curriculum Approach.” The workshop was conducted under the case study “Conflict Resolution Activities for Young Children through Positive Psychology Principles at Early Childhood Development Centers in the Walailak University Network, Phase 2.” Activities were held at the Community Demonstration Child Development Center, Khok Lek Child Development Center, and Walailak University.

The program aimed to provide third-year Early Childhood Education students with opportunities to learn directly from authentic educational settings through a school-based learning process. The activities were designed to integrate the HighScope approach, which emphasizes active learning, learner participation, decision-making, and the creation of learning environments that appropriately support young children’s development.

Throughout the workshop, students explored and exchanged ideas on designing learning experiences for young children. They also learned how positive psychology principles can be applied to support children in managing conflict constructively. Particular attention was given to understanding children’s emotions, feelings, and individual needs, while encouraging age-appropriate communication, social interaction, and problem-solving skills.

The field-based activities also enabled students to observe real teaching and learning practices, engage with teachers and caregivers at child development centers in the Walailak University network, and reflect on their experiences. This process helped bridge academic knowledge gained in the classroom with actual professional practice.

In addition, the program strengthened key professional competencies, including observation, analytical thinking, communication, classroom interaction, and a deeper understanding of early childhood development in authentic contexts.

The workshop represents an important part of the School of Education’s efforts to prepare future early childhood teachers with both theoretical knowledge and practical experience. It equips students to design appropriate learning experiences, support children’s holistic development, and create positive learning environments as they progress toward becoming competent and professional early childhood educators.
