Walailak University School of Education Welcomes New B.Ed. Students, Marking Their First Step Toward Becoming Professional Teachers

On Sunday, June 28, 2026, the School of Education, Walailak University, organized the 2026 Academic Year Orientation Program for new Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) students. The program was designed to welcome and prepare students for university life, introduce them to the B.Ed. curriculum and learning pathways, and inspire them as they begin their journey toward becoming professional teachers.

The event opened with special performances by students in Dance Education and Physical Education, creating an impressive and welcoming atmosphere while showcasing the identity, talents, and creativity of students from the School of Education.

Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University, presided over the opening ceremony and delivered an inspirational address to the new students. He emphasized the vital role of teachers as individuals who shape people and contribute significantly to the development of society. He also encouraged students to begin their professional journey with determination, responsibility, and a strong commitment to the teaching profession.

Associate Professor Dr. Charun Boonkarn, Vice President for Academic Affairs (Humanities and Social Sciences) and Acting Dean of the School of Education, presented the objectives of the orientation program. He later joined university executives, faculty members, and students for a commemorative group photograph.

Associate Professor Dr. Charun Boonkarn and Associate Professor Dr. Mallika Charoensuthasinee, Acting Dean of the School of Science, also welcomed the new students and provided guidance on university life, adapting to higher education, and continuously developing themselves throughout their studies.

During the academic session, Assistant Professor Dr. Pongpan Kamphon, Acting Associate Dean of the School of Education, introduced the Bachelor of Education curriculum, including its structure, learning outcomes, and student development activities aligned with the requirements of the Teachers’ Council of Thailand. The session provided students with a clearer understanding of their academic journey and the professional competencies they will develop throughout the program.

Associate Professor Dr. Walaiporn Mektrirat, Acting Head of the Teaching Practicum Center, introduced the Center’s roles and responsibilities, professional teaching experiences in partner schools, and preparations required before students undertake their future teaching practicum. These experiences are an essential part of connecting academic knowledge with authentic professional practice.

In the afternoon, relationship-building activities were organized to strengthen teamwork, friendship, and a sense of belonging among students and faculty members. The program then continued with “Light toward the Teaching Profession,” a candlelight ceremony held in front of the Professor Dr. Wichit Srisa-an Building. The symbolic activity was designed to cultivate professional ideals, values, and the spirit of being a teacher.

The orientation also featured the activity “A Teacher’s First Step toward the Path of Mentorship,” followed by a reflection session that encouraged students to consider the roles, responsibilities, and values associated with their future profession.

More than an introduction to academic study and university life, the orientation marked an important first step in shaping the professional identity of Walailak University’s future teachers. The School of Education remains committed to developing graduates equipped with knowledge, professional competencies, ethical values, and a strong teaching spirit, preparing them to become professional educators and contribute meaningfully to the sustainable development of Thai education and society.
