WU Early Childhood Education Students Gain School-Based Learning Experience through HighScope and Positive Psychology
From September 4–5, 2026, third-year Early Childhood Education students from the School of Education, Walailak University, participated in a hands-on training program on school-based learning and the application of the HighScope curriculum approach. The program was conducted under the case study entitled “Conflict Resolution Activities for Young Children through Positive Psychology Principles at Early Childhood Development Centers in the Walailak University Network, Phase 2.”
The training activities were held at the Community Demonstration Child Development Center, Khok Lek Child Development Center, and Walailak University. The program provided students with opportunities to learn directly from authentic early childhood education settings and to connect theoretical knowledge from the classroom with practical experience in child development centers.
Through the HighScope approach, the students explored how to design learning experiences that encourage young children to actively participate, make choices, engage in hands-on activities, and reflect on their experiences. The program also emphasized the application of positive psychology principles to support appropriate behavior, constructive communication, emotional understanding, and effective conflict resolution among young children.
During the training, students strengthened a range of professional skills, including child observation, behavior analysis, activity design, classroom interaction, and the management of real-life situations that may arise in early childhood learning environments. These experiences also helped deepen their understanding of children’s developmental characteristics, individual differences, and learning needs.
The school-based learning experience served as an important step in preparing future early childhood teachers to apply academic knowledge in meaningful and practical ways. It also encouraged students to create positive learning environments that support children’s physical, emotional, social, and cognitive development.
By integrating the HighScope approach with positive psychology and authentic field-based learning, the program contributed to the professional preparation of Early Childhood Education students, equipping them with the knowledge, practical skills, and professional awareness necessary to become competent early childhood teachers who can foster children’s holistic development in diverse learning contexts.
