“Pim Supitcha,” a Future English Teacher from the School of Education, Gains International Experience at Two Leading Malaysian Universities and Turns Fear into Confidence

Ms. Supitcha Ketsattaban, known as “Pim,” a third-year English major student at the School of Education, Walailak University, was selected to participate in the Academic Visit and Field-Based Learning Program in Malaysia from July 29 to August 1, 2026. The program provided students with opportunities for academic visits and intercultural learning at two leading Malaysian universities: Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).

During the program, Pim and her fellow students delivered an English presentation entitled “Educational Research Trends in Thailand: Students Lack Confidence in Speaking English” to Malaysian faculty members. The experience allowed her to strengthen her English communication skills in an authentic academic environment while gaining greater confidence in presenting ideas to an international audience.

In addition to academic activities, Pim also served as a student representative in promoting Thai culture. She participated in a traditional Southern Thai cultural performance, “Tari Kipas,” introducing aspects of Thai identity and cultural heritage to international participants.

Pim shared that she joined the program with a strong determination to improve herself, particularly her English communication skills. Previously, she had often lacked confidence when speaking with foreigners. Using English in real-life situations therefore became an important opportunity to overcome her fear and discover her own potential.

“The most challenging part was presenting our work in English in front of faculty members from both universities. I was very nervous and worried at first, but after completing the presentation, I felt extremely proud of myself,” she said.

Beyond language and academic development, the experience in Malaysia also broadened her understanding of multicultural society. She learned how to adapt to different environments, respect diverse perspectives, and appreciate cultural differences—essential qualities for future teachers in an increasingly interconnected world.

Pim encouraged her friends and younger students to remain open to new experiences and take every opportunity to challenge themselves.

“Do not let fear make you turn down a good opportunity. Sometimes, having the courage to try just once can become the beginning of discovering something new within yourself.”
