“Spirit of the South” – Walailak University Dance Education Students Showcase Southern Identity, Culture, and Faith Through Performing Arts

On Thursday, February 19, 2026, from 6:30 p.m. onwards, the School of Education, Walailak University, organized a performance as part of the learning achievement verification for the TDE67-242 course at the Walailak University Botanic Park (Bota Market). Presented under the concept “Spirit of the South – ใต้ศรัทธา,” the performance provided Dance Education students with an opportunity to transform their knowledge and skills into creative works that beautifully and powerfully reflected the identity, cultural heritage, and spirit of faith rooted in Southern Thailand.

The event was honored by Associate Professor Dr. Charun Boonkarn, Acting Dean of the School of Education, Walailak University, who presided over the opening ceremony and delivered words of encouragement to the students. He highlighted the importance of learning through authentic practice and encouraged students to apply their knowledge of performing arts to preserve, reinterpret, and creatively develop local cultural heritage in ways that remain meaningful and relevant to contemporary society.

“Spirit of the South” was not only part of the academic learning achievement verification process but also served as an important platform for students to demonstrate their capabilities in various dimensions. Throughout the preparation and performance process, students applied creative thinking, performance design, artistic skills, teamwork, communication, and problem-solving abilities while gaining valuable experience in presenting their work before a live audience.

The performance reflected an intensive learning process that successfully integrated theoretical knowledge with practical experience. Under the guidance of Ajarn Nutchanat Rodsa-ard, the course instructor, students were encouraged to develop expertise in performing arts while cultivating responsibility, professional ethics, and pride in their cultural roots. This approach supports the School of Education’s commitment to preparing future teachers who are capable of applying arts and cultural knowledge to meaningful learning experiences and contributing positively to society.

The atmosphere throughout the evening was filled with excitement and appreciation as faculty members, students, and members of the audience gathered to witness the students’ creative achievements. Set against the distinctive atmosphere of Walailak University Botanic Park, the performance brought Southern cultural narratives to life through movement, music, creativity, and artistic expression.

Ultimately, “Spirit of the South – ใต้ศรัทธา” represented more than a student performance. It demonstrated the potential of young educators and artists to preserve cultural heritage while giving it new meaning through contemporary creativity. The event stood as a memorable evening celebrating performing arts, local identity, and the enduring spirit of faith that lies at the heart of Southern culture.
