Research Spotlight: Integrating Local Knowledge into Sustainable Education
Walailak University’s School of Education proudly congratulates its faculty researchers on the publication of their work in Sustainability (Switzerland), a Q1 international journal ranked in the top tier with a Scopus percentile of 90. This achievement reflects the quality and international recognition of the School’s research excellence.
The published article, titled “Integrating Local Plant Knowledge into Elementary Curriculum: A Scalable Model for Community Sustainability,” was authored by Dr. Pongpan Compan, Mr. Thongchai Prommachan, and Dr. Chanakamol Kongyok.
This research focuses on developing a model for integrating local plant knowledge into the elementary school curriculum. The study designed a learning process that connects classroom content with authentic community and environmental contexts, encouraging students to develop awareness, appreciate local wisdom, and strengthen analytical thinking skills alongside Education for Sustainability.
A key strength of the study lies in its development of a scalable model that can be adapted across diverse educational contexts at the local, national, and international levels. In doing so, the research contributes to the advancement of sustainable development goals and supports the enhancement of educational quality through the use of community-based resources and indigenous knowledge.
The publication of this research in a Q1 journal marks another proud achievement for Walailak University.
