Walailak University School of Education and Bank of Thailand Empower Social Studies Teachers with Financial Classroom Tools

On May 26, 2026, the School of Education, Walailak University, in collaboration with the Bank of Thailand (BOT), organized a professional development activity for lower secondary school teachers in the Social Studies, Religion, and Culture learning area in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. The program, entitled “Tools for the Financial Classroom,” aimed to strengthen teachers’ capacity to integrate financial competencies into classroom learning in a practical and meaningful way.

Assistant Professor Dr. Pongpan Kamphon, Acting Associate Dean of the School of Education, presided over the opening session and welcomed the participants. In his remarks, he emphasized the importance of financial literacy as an essential life skill for young people and highlighted the role of teachers in helping students develop responsible financial habits from an early age.

During the program, Dr. Ornipa Thaithae Phunsamut and Ajarn Thongchai Phrommachan joined the Bank of Thailand team as resource persons. Together, they introduced concepts, teaching tools, and practical classroom activities under the theme “Tools for the Financial Classroom.”

The training focused on enabling teachers to design learning activities that integrate financial competencies with curriculum indicators and core content in Social Studies. Participants explored ways to incorporate topics such as financial planning, saving, responsible spending, and informed financial decision-making into lessons that are relevant to students’ everyday lives.

The workshop also encouraged teachers to exchange experiences, develop activity-based learning ideas, and adapt financial education content to suit the needs and contexts of their own schools and learners.

This initiative reflects the School of Education, Walailak University’s commitment to supporting teacher development and strengthening educational quality in the local community. Through collaboration with the Bank of Thailand, the program seeks to equip teachers with effective tools that can be transferred directly to the classroom, helping young people in Southern Thailand build strong financial literacy and develop sustainable money-management skills for the future.
